Interview with Amanda Ripley, Author of "The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes – and Why"

Amanda Ripley writes about human behavior and public policy for Time magazine and The Atlantic. Her 2008 book, The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes – and Why explains how the brain works in disasters—and how we can do better. "The Unthinkable" was made into a PBS documentary called "Surviving Disaster".

Amanda is a keynote speaker at the National Council on Science and the Environment's 2013 Conference on Disasters and the Environment. I had the chance to interview her about her research into human behavior in disasters and the implications for policymakers in light of Hurricane Sandy.
