We Don't Have to Re-Invent the Wheel for Global Sustainability
Non-renewable energy resources such as coal and oil for power production have to be minimized to lessen the effects of climate change. Here's why.
It takes millions of years for coal to form. Oil is no different. These two forms of fossil fuels have other things in common too; they can't be produced artificially. Once they're gone, they're gone for millions of years. We are dependent on fossil fuels for electrical power so that we can have air conditioning systems, refrigerators, and other electrical products and appliances. In other words, we can't wait millions of years.
Here's another reason. The planet's temperature is rising at an accelerated rate due to climate change. All we have to do is tune on the news to see the change in progress. For example, hurricanes are becoming larger and more destructive in areas where tropical storms are rare in autumn. But, what we see in the news is just half of the reality. Scientific data shows that ice is melting faster at the poles and CO2 levels in the atmosphere are rising at historic rates.
Alternative energy sources such as biofuel, natural gas, solar, and wind can help replace the fossil fuels we're so dependent on. But, it's no easy challenge for societal, political, and financial reasons. There is one solution that has arrived front and center and brings us all hope for a sustainable planet. And, that is energy efficiency because it provides the best option for conserving our energy resources worldwide.
Energy efficiency takes advantage of smart energy saving methods and devices to minimize energy consumption. Additional benefits include significant cost savings for energy users and reduction in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Today, the most advanced energy management technologies allow organizations to access and share energy data instantly whenever and wherever, generate actionable reports, and make informed real-time decisions on energy usage. Many governments are seeing the benefits of energy efficiency, which is why we're seeing so many new energy regulations in places where the environment wasn't always a top concern.
It's not easy for financially pinched organizations to know which solution is the best for a simple reason – there is no single out-of-box energy system that can solve all problems for everybody. Energy solutions have to be tailored to meet the individual needs of each organization. That's why organizations depend on energy efficiency experts to develop solutions to combat energy consumption at the enterprise level, operations level, and control level.
In most organizations, aging energy equipment can suck profitability right out of the bottom line. Now if an organization wants to replace all power equipment with new energy management tools, they can. But for most, this is too costly.
