Urban Agriculture – Slowly Reviving Urban Areas

What is Urban Agriculture?

The concept of urban agriculture is not something new. However, the originally popularity began with schools, colleges, parks departments, and non-profit organizations. Because of urban agriculture, schools are able to provide more nutritious meals to students, it has provided job training for many people, as well as employment, and it has helped to generate cleaner air in urban areas where most of the plants meant to clean the air have been removed.

Today, larger cities are allowing a more in-depth version of urban agriculture. While it is not allowable in the downtown portion of cities, the outer-lying areas of cities are not allowing complete urban agriculture. On a regular basis, cities and counties are changing laws and zoning regulations in an effort to allow more and more people to develop their own urban farm.

While some people stop at growing crops, other people have expanded their efforts to raising backyard egg chickens, backyard egg chickens, and even bees to help pollinate their crops, as well as their neighbor's crops and provide fresh honey for their families.

After decades of terrorizing the ecosystem, humans are beginning to realize the damage they have done to the overall ecosystem, as well as the amount of rural agricultural land. The eyes of the public and scientists began to drift toward the concept of Green Infrastructure and Sustainable Communities. Farmers have been forced to give up their land for the sake of urban growth and manicured lawns. As food prices began to rise, people began to question the reason. After a short period of time, it began to sink in that the right to complain about food prices was slowly being taken away from them.

Building an Urban Agricultural Business

As the economy began to diminish, more and more people realized that something drastic had to happen if they were going to continue to live their comfortable lives, and have the healthy food that is needed for their families to live a long, healthy life. This is when the trend of Urban Agriculture began.

Even though the need to revive urban areas falls onto everyone's shoulders, those who are motivated enough can easily build a successful business out of developing green infrastructure and sustainable communities.

Because of the crucial need to build a green infrastructure and sustainable communities, a business based agriculture adventure to the next level and turning it into a business. By doing this, they are easily able to corner the market on local produce. Local grocery stores and markets will quickly switch to a local produce provider in an effort to save money, and to pass that savings on to their customers. This is especially true with the decrease in rural farm land, and the prominent expense of having the produce transported over a long distance.

There are many methods of developing a business like this, and there are great resources online including Pro Business Plans that can help you to develop a business plan for your upcoming urban agriculture business.
