The American Public Transportation Association conference and expo drew 13,700 attendees to the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago in early October. Breakout sessions covered issues including transit funding, autonomous transit experiments, transit safety and a look back at how public transportation agencies managed during the FIFA World Cup matches. A panel of three mayors from Southern, car-centric cities also discussed their efforts to improve transportation in their communities.
The expo, held every three years, showcased trains, buses, integrated fare payment systems and AI innovations for predictive rail maintenance, real-time passenger information and bus dispatching.
Smart Cities Dive was on hand to cover the event. Here are the stories we brought back from Chicago.
